Pilipa’a 18′s win 2007 Junior Olympic Silver Medal
Pilipa’a 18′s captured the club-division silver medal at the 2007 USA Volleyball Junior Olympic Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia.
The 18′s started the day with a quarter-final match against Irish VBC. Pilipa’a put on a hitting and blocking display and defeated the Irish in two sets 25-19, 25-13 to advance to the semi-finals against Quicksilver Rainbows from Honolulu.
In game one of the semi-final, Pilipa’a was down 5-1 but came back quickly and won 25-21. The Rainbows adjusted their line-up and put together a better performance to take game two 20-25. Pilipa’a had a slow start in game three but came back with an 8-point unanswered scoring run to win 15-12. The win put Pilipa’a back in the finals of the Gold Medal bracket for the first time since 2004 when Pilipa’a captured the 17′s Club title.
Pilipa’a faced a tough and tall SMBC club from Santa Monica , California. Pilipa’a struggled in the Championship and lost the final 25-16, 25-16 and finished with a silver medal and ranked 2nd out of 51 teams.
Pilipa’a's Chandler Kaaa, Jasen Suwa, and Jay Hanagami were named to the All-Tournament team.
